Abstract:

This study is focused on the survey, documentation, and creation of a coursebook about the local heroes in Quezon Province. Interviews, biographical, historical and sociological analyses of documents and other materials were used in the classification of heroes in the different periods of Philippine history. Results show that Quezon Province has produced local heroes in the different walks of life who existed in the different periods of Philippine history. The local heroes are recognized by the local government and an organization, Bantayog ng mga Bayani Foundation Inc. based on their prescribed criteria and that of the National Historical Commission; bases in the choice of local heroes are their exemplary virtues and achievements which contributed to the independence and progress of the country. They are honored through monuments, busts, landmarks, names of streets, schools, and places, and a special day of celebration attributed to them. The researchers highly recommend that a more extensive study of the local heroes of Quezon Province be conducted; the study of their life be integrated into Philippine history and other related courses; the local heroes’ memorabilia be preserved in a museum as part of the province’s history and culture. The local government should also initiate researches on the possible heroes in their locality.
