Reishan P Teruel | Angie C Labos | Ella Mae B Arbolonio

Abstract:

This qualitative study using phenomenological approach aims to determine the story behind the truancy of high school students. The researchers chose four participants for the study, who were identified as truant students in their school. In the gathering of data, the researchers used the following: narrative writing, one on- one interview, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Data gathered were analyzed and interpreted using the five steps of John Creswell. The result showed that truancy has many causes, which are either external or internal. The study yielded one common theme: getting away or evasion of duties in pursuit of freedom and enjoyment.
