Abstract:

This paper seeks to analyze the communication styles of the five (5) most followed and liked pro-Duterte Facebook pages. The classification was based on the content analysis of 150 statuses posted, liked, and commented by thousands of followers. In the course of analyzing the texts, the researcher out that there are 5 communication styles emerged. The most common style among the 5 chosen FB pages is the “manipulative” style.Thesepagesaremostly“manipulative”intheissuesinvolvingpolitics, specifically, inshowingdiscontent to the arguments of the opposition. Religious-related criticisms are manifested with strong “aggressive” communication styles, while cultural or social criticisms are manifested by “submissive” style. It is concluded that there is a need for FB users to consider with caution in liking and following FB pages. There is a great deal for educators to give and share media literacy among the youth who are prone to follow such pages. It is necessary to analyze the opposition’s top FB pages as well, for contrastive purposes.
