Abstract:

Plants are used for healing as early as the pre-historic period. Even today, medicinal plants are believed effective in curing human ailments. Shahid et al. (2013) stress that plants do contain chemotherapeutic, bacteriostatic, and antimicrobial agents. Thus, most commercial drugs are derived from plants. The fear for debilitating side effects of synthetic drugs force many to turn to herbal plants. Herbal medicine is said to be of better quality compared to synthetic drugs because synthetic drugs. Synthesized one part of the herb which destabilize the herb’s medicinal effects (Healthy Diet Base, 2015). Additionally, herbal medicine is believed much safer than laboratory-produced drugs because they are made from all-natural ingredients compared to synthetic medicines which are made from concotions of chemicals. Lastly, they are as inexpensive and readily available than synthetic drugs.
