Abstract:

Reading is one of the basic skills in communication that one has to master in order for him to be literate and proficient. It is very valuable to everyone, most especially to students to attain academic success. Students need to read in order for them to interact in their classes, answer questions about assignments and actively perform classroom tasks. Reading undergoes stages by which students have to go through. As cited by Strommen and Mates (2004), early stages of reading have shown that the home environment and parents' support or other adult may be essential to encouraging literacy development. They further mentioned that in the psychology of reading for pleasure, there are documented factors that made very important contribution to the understanding of how reading can be emotionally satisfying.
