There were attempts to reconstruct the history of Camiguin. The first attempt was made by Vicente Elio in the 19th century. Since then, however, there were only a few who again attempted, in particular the Jesuit fathers Fr. Francisco Mallari S.J. and Fr. Francisco R. Demetrio S.J. But what they left in memory about the history of Camiguin were only annotations and bits and pieces of sources about this mystical island of fire. There were some archeological studies made on Camiguin. For example, just recently, the University of the Philippines' Archeological Studies conducted one on Camiguin churches. However, to date, there are only a few works made in terms of historiography or to the discipline of writing a historical monograph about the island.
