Urbana and Felisa: Discourse of Letters of Correspondence

Abstract:

This study aims to highlight the discourse of the Urbana and Felisa sisters in writing in a descriptive way. The book was written in the eighteenth century, ergo, the lexicon used were on the frozen level or mostly archaic: Urbana is in Manila which implies her name “urban” while Felisa was in the province and her name was derived from the word ‘felicity’ which means “happiness.” The study presented the teachings and etiquette that were followed and practiced according to the social norms of the time in the means of exchanging of letters of Urbana and Felisa.
