CIGARETTE GRAPHIC HEALTH WARNING AMONG SMOKERS: AN ASSESSMENT

Abstract:

This study entitled “Cigarette graphic Health Warning among Smokers: An Assessment” was conducted to assess the community and especially the smokers in coping with the Cigarette Graphic Health Warning along with the City of Lipa. The researchers used descriptive method of research and employed purposive sampling. A research questionnaire was administered to 161 respondents. The statistical treatment used were frequency count, ranking, percentage, weighted mean and correlated T – test. The study specifically sought to determine the impact of Cigarette Graphic Health Warning to personal, social and economic aspect of the smokers. The assessment of the respondents safely implied that the assessment of the respondents on cigarette graphic health warning have high significant relationship when grouped according to their length of using cigarettes and number of cigarette sticks consumed every day, and significant relationship when grouped according to their age, occupation, sex, civil status, and socio-economic status. The statistics safely concluded that majority of the respondents are 21-25 years old, not indicated their occupation, male, single, and not also indicated their monthly income. That majority of the respondents smoked cigarette for 1-3 years and consumed 1- 5 sticks every day. That majority of the respondents in terms of personal agreed on the item when they see the pictures showing bad effects of smoking in the body they become worried on their health and least of them slightly agree on the items that when they see the pictures showing bad effects of smoking they stop smoking”. Majority of the respondents in terms of economic slightly agree on the item when I start seeing the pictures on cigarette packages I lessen the use of cigarette and least of them interpreted the item When I start seeing the pictures on cigarette packages, I just use vape as an alternative as disagree. Majority of the respondents in terms of social interpreted the item because of the pictures showing bad effects of smoking on cigarette packages I encouraged my friends and relatives to stop smoking as slightly agree and least of them interpreted the item because of the pictures showing bad effects of smoking on cigarette packages, my friends were lessen because I stop smoking as disagree. The assessment of the respondents on cigarette Graphic Health Warning has high significant difference. The assessment of the respondents on Cigarette Graphic health Warning have high significant relationships when grouped according to their length of using cigarettes and number of cigarette sticks consumed everyday, and significant relationship when grouped according to their age, occupation, sex, civil status, and socioeconomic status. Further, since the researchers recommend that the Local Government should focus on giving livelihood programs and job fairs to give source of income to all those unemployed, especially to male and adolescents to prevent the use of cigarette. The Department of Health and with the participation of private and public hospitals, NGO’s shall conduct seminars for families having cigarette smokers-abusers with the objective of lecturing them about the hazardous effect of smoking and also have some knowledge or possible actions that they will do in having a smoker in the family. The Department of Health in coordination with Local Government Unit must conduct seminars lecturing about the negative effects of cigarette and its hazardous effect on one’s health. The National Government and with the participation of all Local Government units should continue enforce the Graphic Health Warnings in all cigarette manufacturers.
