Transformational Leadership as Predictors of Communication Satisfaction among the Selected Student Leaders as Perceived by Student Officers in St. Paul University Manila

Ma. Regeena V Romero

Abstract:

The objective of the study was to determine whether specific components of transformational leadership can predict communication satisfaction among student leaders with respect to students’ perceptions. It was hypothesized that idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualized consideration were correlated to communication satisfaction and that all components of transformational leadership have individual contribution on communication satisfaction. The study was conducted in St. Paul University Manila and 78 respondents were college students. Most of the respondents were females and all respondents were members of a co-curricular organization. Two survey questionnaires, namely a 15-item rating scale and Student Communication Scale were administered. The researchers used the paper-to-pen method and an online survey to accommodate all students. Statistical tools such as Pearson r and Multiple Regression were used to analyze the data gathered. Results revealed that all components of transformational leadership were associated with communication satisfaction; however, intellectual stimulation is not a predictor of communication satisfaction. It was also found out that individualized consideration has the most contribution among the components of transformational leadership. Further analyses and comparison of the results were suggested.
