An Assessment of the Marketability of the Tourism Graduates of Letran Calamba from Year 2006 to 2009

Abstract:

This study sought to identify the marketability of the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Major in Tourism and to evaluate their course curriculum to come up with recommendations suited for the present students of the said course. It also aimed to identify the present profile of the respondents in terms of the year of graduation, gender, age, and civil status; to determine if the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Major in Tourism were successful in terms of length of job hunting, promotion, and present job status; to determine the number of companies that the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Major in Tourism applied for before they were hired in their first job; to find out the relationship between the graduates’ previous or present jobs and their course Bachelor secondary of Science in Hospitality Management Major in Tourism; and to identify the significance of the major subjects offered in the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality

 

 Management Major in Tourism to the professional growth of its graduates. The respondents of this study were the graduates of the said course from 2006 to 2009.

 

Findings revealed that the graduates of Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Major in Tourism were marketable because they were hired easily on the job due to rapid growth of the hospitality industry in the country. Thus, the following were recommended: (1) The Colegio should continue promoting the Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Major in Tourism course, (2) Future graduates of the said course should consider applying for a job related to their field; (3) Practical applications of the theories discussed in the classrooms should be considered as part of the requirements of the course; and (4) The Colegio should monitor the demands of the industry so that it can give trainings aligned to these demands to their current students.
