Quest of the Cross: The Three Orihinals of Arakyo in the Town of Peñaranda, Nueva Ecija

Michael C Delos Santos

Abstract:

Arakyo is known as a local culture and a theatrical presentation which is being practiced until now in the province of Nueva Ecija. The highlight of this performance is to celebrate and give honor to the holy cross where Jesus Christ died. Peñaranda is one of the towns in the province that celebrates the said feast every month of May. In order to present the historical context, this particular study looked into the rich narratives found on the manuscripts of arakyo from the three barangays where it is being performed, namely, Sto. Tomas, Las Piñas and Sina Sahan. Moreover, an initial documentation of the three manuscripts has been conducted by the researcher.
