This paper provides a discussion and analysis of Bayani S. Abadilla’s role in the founding of Filipinology in PUP. Known as a nationalist and promoter of Filipino Epistemology, Abadilla’s intellectual life as a writer, teacher, and member of causedoriented group is compared to the characteristics of Filipinolohiya/Filipinology of PUP. Using content analysis method, this paper answersthe following questions: Who is Bayani S. Abadilla as a scholar and founder ofFilipinol-ohiya/Filipinology? What are the characteristics of and how has this kind of Filipinolohiya in PUP been established? What is the current status of Filipinolohiya in PUP? In line with this, the paper is divided into three sections: the intellectual life of Bayani S.Abadilla, characteristics and history of his Filipinology, and its current status in PUP. This study is valuable not only because of its contributions about Filipinos but also as a way of understanding the concepts created by Filipino scholars whose studies are important in the theorizing and application of solutions to national problems.
