Abstract:

Ultrasound has now become one of the most common imaging modality for medical practice. This study aimed to produce a natural and organic ultrasound gel as an alternative to the commercial ultrasound gel to lessen if not prevent skin irritations. The organic gel is composed of Saluyot leaves and Aloe Vera extract. The study underwent the formulation of gel, anti-microbial testing, toxicity, and animal testing. When visualizing the liver and thyroid organs, results yielded moderately acceptable image quality when using both the aloe vera – saluyot extract and the commercial gel. The result showed that the aloe vera – saluyot extract can be used as an alternative to commercial gel but more studies are recommended to address viscosity and preservation of the mixture to extend a longer shelf-life.
