Charisma Salutillo

Abstract:

This study endeavored to look into the experiences of the EMTs of Davao Central 911 in terms of their Professional Quality of Life composed of Compassion Satisfaction, Burnout and Compassion Fatigue. Out of 120 EMTs, only 86 participated and underwent the structured questioning and interview process. The researcher used standardized tests; the Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) test and the Self-Care Technique Checklist. The study utilized an explanatory sequential mixed method design and purposive sampling. Validating the results further, a structured questionnaire was made and a focus group discussion was conducted to validate the baseline results of ProQOL of high compassion satisfaction, average burnout, and low fatigue. The results revealed that high compassion satisfaction is derived from the passion, dedication, and service rendered to the people they help; however, the average burnout was experienced in the workplace; wherein, their self-worth as a worker was not valued but showed resiliency whenever they feel distressed because of their workload. Self-Care Practice was useful in establishing the quality of life among EMTs. The respondents drew out their strengths from their co- EMTs and helped each other surpass the day and assessed the performance of each other for improvement. They built themselves from each other’s positive outlooks despite the limitations they experience every day and the need for composure as EMTs of Central 911.
