AN EXPLORATION ON THE ECOLOGY OF FOOD AND NUTRITION IN THE COUNTRYSIDE

Abstract:

This study generally aimed to explore the ecology of food and nutrition problem particularly wasting in Region II (Cagayan Valley), Philippines. It is an exploratory research as it unveiled the ecology of food and nutrition of Region 2. Data were gathered from various secondary sources such as statistical reports mainly from the Philippine Statistics Authority and National Nutrition Surveys. Problem tree analysis showed that wasting was a result of food insecurity, poor quality of care and poor health status and consequently resulted to impaired physical and mental development, mortality and morbidity. To address the roots of the problem, integrated food and nutrition policies, programs and projects were deemed necessary.
