EXAMINING THE SPEAKING SKILLS OF PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS OF A STATE UNIVERSITY

Abstract:

This study investigated the oral communication difficulties of the 37 pre-service teachers of Quirino State University- Maddela Campus. The descriptive research method was used to gather and analyze data for this research. The pre-service teachers were asked to answer the questionnaire on profile. Likewise, the same number took the oral skills test in intonation, stress, and pronunciation. The data gathered were subjected to statistical treatment to develop a tabular and textual presentation of the results. The chi-square test was used to test the hypothesis, which indicated no significant differences in their oral communication difficulties when grouped according to their profile variables such as age, sex, and language/dialect spoken. From the study's findings, the researcher found out that pre-service teachers committed the most significant frequency of error in the pronunciation of vowel sounds. They also have difficulties with stress and intonation.
