Abstract:

Job Satisfaction and Employee Retention in the organization has received much attention among various researchers across the globe. Most people experience one degree of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with their work, which tends to vary from one job to another. This study aimed to determine (a) the level of job satisfaction of employees; (b) existing practices in employee retention strategies adopted by private institution in Zamboanga City; (c) factors that influence employees to leave the organization; and (d) significant difference on the level of job satisfaction when respondents were grouped according to their profile. The descriptive survey method, quota sampling technique, and analyses of data were utilized. Research findings show that the level of job satisfaction of the respondents was high. Also, strengthening orientation roles/programs for newly hired employees, creating work/life balance, matching employees with the right job and qualifications; providing conducive working environment, appreciation and value among employees, competitive salary and benefits; fostering and strengthening teamwork in the workplace, and intensifying the recruitment and selection process were the strategies adopted by the institution in retaining employees. The factors that influenced employees to leave the organization were the lack of appreciation/recognition from the management, lack of career growth, unjust salary and compensation, overloaded of job functions and responsibilities, and inadequate training and development opportunities. Furthermore, there was no significant difference in the level of job satisfaction of the respondents in terms of sex, age, civil status, monthly income, and length of service while a significant difference yielded in educational attainment and position/rank. It is recommended that the top management must understand the importance of factors that affect job satisfaction and employee retention in the organization.
