Abstract:

Educational institutions are mandated to make sure that the students are provided with quality education in order to eradicate unemployment problem and reduce poverty in the country. Studies that determine if the products of the school are filling the demands of the industry show that they are addressing these problems. This paper sought to determine whether the competencies required by the industry match with the competencies attained by the students from the school. Two groups of respondents were considered in this study: one group is the Electrical industry in Zamboanga City and the other group is the third-year students taking up Diploma of Technology major in Electrical Technology of Zamboanga City State Polytechnic College for the School Year 2015-2016. A survey-questionnaire was designed to determine the competencies, which were patterned from the competencies set by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and the arithmetic mean for each competency for comparison. Findings show that the industry-required competencies matched with those achieved by the students.
