The University of the East-NSTP Computer Literacy Group Experience

Sheila M. Geronimo

Abstract:

The National Service Training Program (NSTP) provides opportunities for young students to be exposed to outreach community-based programs that help less fortunate children or out-of-school youth. They become responsible, responsive, sociable and civic conscious, and develop patriotism and ethics of service to communities. The program provides valuable training for future leaders. In the last ten years, the University of the East-National Service Training Program (UE- NSTP), specifically the computer literacy group, has provided the adopted communities well-appreciated community-based projects. The computer literacy program was made available to a number of barangays in Sampaloc, Quiapo and Tondo, with classes conducted in the laboratories of the University by NSTP students and their advisers. The first diagnostic evaluation of the project yielded positive feedback from the participants from the adopted barangays, as well as from the other stakeholders of the program.
