Abstract:

This study aimed to uncover the mental health or well-being and coping strategies people utilize in the face of the crisis and pain that was brought about by the Covid19 pandemic, specifically with the selected employees of Universidad de Zamboanga. The Coronavirus 19 pandemic or crisis is perhaps a unique experience modern human beings have had in their lifetime. This research on the “Mental Health and Coping Strategies of the Selected Employees of Universidad de Zamboanga in the Time of the Covid 19 Pandemic” utilized two standardized and globally recognized tests called the “General Health Questionnaire” or GHQ 12 to assess their levels of psychological distress in the face of this pandemic and the “Brief-COPE” questionnaire to ascertain their coping skills (avoidant or approach) during the time of the pandemic. The GHQ 12 and Brief-Cope were meant to complement each other in this research or as what was stated in the statement of the problem. This research strengthened this resolve because the data showed that the selected employees of Universidad de Zamboanga scored high in both the GHQ 12 and the Brief-COPE questionnaires. The research “The Mental Health and Coping Strategies of the Employees of Universidad de Zamboanga in the Time of the Covid19 Pandemic” aimed to establish avenues and provisions working institutions might consider and eventually provide in light of their employees’ mental health. By providing measures and programs to address their employees’ mental health needs, an institution such as UZ becomes even more stable, progressive, and ethical as a result.
