Abstract:

This study utilized descriptive correlation, specifically assessed the relationship between academic hardiness and academic outcome of the respondents from the data gathered and the corresponding interpretation made. The researchers used the Academic Hardiness Scale and the students' mean grades from the major subjects that were taken during the second term of A.Y. 2015-2016 in measuring the academic hardiness variable, and the academic outcome, respectively. The respondents of this study came from the four different colleges of De La Salle Araneta University, namely College of Education, College of Business, the College of Veterinary Medicine and Agricultural Science, and the College of Arts, Sciences and Technology. Analysis of data revealed that there is no significant relationship between academic hardiness and academic outcome. It was also found that no significant relationship between academic outcome and the other three components (control-effort, control-affect and challenge). It is said that an individual high in commitment, but simultaneously low in other sub facets could mean that the presence of change in the students' environment may have caused them to feel vulnerable, that they can hardly be considered as hardy students (Maddi, 2013).
