Discipline: Philosophy
We can say that the social theorists or philosophers during the enlightenment period with their prevailing school of thought (i.e., Humanism, etc.) spearheaded the special study of crime to be studied as a separate and distinct discipline called “Criminology” determining its boundaries, nature, causes, development, etc. to what it has become of it today, . Social Philosophy on the other hand, used to be part of General Philosophy’s agenda (Shand, 1994) which is a new science that continuous to evolve and studies crime as one of the social phenomena and continuously contributes in terms of theories, concepts, perspectives and interpretations that may be adopted in Criminology proper.
