Abstract:

Letran Calamba Student Government (LCSG) is the highest body of student organizations. It is composed of students from different programs, representing the student body. The service and the duties of the organization are to disseminate information to make services available to students and to promote the attributions of a Letranite leader. The president of the LCSG experiences problems when it comes to disseminating information inside the organization. As explained by the president, miscommunication often occurs due to the different class schedules of the members and the absence of a regular meeting. He relies on Facebook chat to disseminate the information; however, some members fail to receive the exact information, resulting in different perceptions. This study aimed to determine the process of information dissemination from the president to the members of the LCSG. Guide questions were used in performing focus group discussion to determine the most preferred tool for information dissemination. Interview results revealed that LCSG used different communication strategies depending on the officers’ schedules or availability. Based on the findings, Letran Calamba Student Government used social media, face to-face, and SMS in relaying immediate and non-immediate information to announce, obtain updates, and remind all members. It was recommended that the LCSG should rely on face-to- face communication and limit the use of social media to lessen the miscommunication among its members. Their meetings must be scheduled regularly. This study employed only qualitative methods, and thus, future researchers may combine different methods to gain more insights.
