Mathematics Anxiety Level of high and low Performing Grade Four Students of Calamba Elementary School Academic Year 2017-2018: A Comparison

Abstract:

This study determined the relationship between mathematics anxiety and academic performance of elementary students. Th respondents of the study were 66 grade four students from the two sections in Calamba Elementary School (CES). All respondents were identified by the teacher as high performing to low performing students. Half of the population were high performing and the other half were low performing. The respondents were given a questionnaire containing 40 statements that are answerable by strongly agree, agree, disagree and strongly disagree. The results showed that there is a relationship between academic performance and mathematics anxiety, but there is no significant relationship between high and low performing students in terms of having Mathematics anxiety. Further research may be conducted to include more respondents.
