Abstract:

Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba is a catholic institution that has six collegiate schools namely, School of Computer Studies and Technology (SCST), School of Nursing (SN), School of Engineering (SE), School of Business Administration and Accountancy (SBMA), School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) and School of Education Arts and Sciences (SEAS). About 60% of professors from different schools use traditional teaching method wherein the professors teach their lessons inside the classroom and later on provide their students with quizzes and exams. Approximately 40% of professors from other department use social media like Facebook in disseminating announcements, handouts, and other school related activities. On the other hand, some professors utilize the Learning Management System like Schoology and Edmodo for them to still keep in touch with their students even beyond class period. However, using social media like Facebook in conveying announcements, handouts and other school related concerns may not be advisable because it may lead to some privacy and security issues. The professors have a hard time communicating with their students outside class period. There are cases that the professors cannot assess their students due to several reasons. In effect, some professors are having a hard time complying with the necessary requirement in the number of quizzes prescribed by the Colegio in computing their student’s grade. On the other hand, in terms of consultation, students who miss to attend their class in a particular subject are having a hard time to have consultation with their professors due to time constraints. With the help of escuela, it ought to provide better communication, collaboration, and learning between the professors and the students. The researchers used descriptive type of research to know the problems and to provide necessary solution for it. Based on the survey conducted, the researchers found out that the system provides better communication, collaboration, and learning between the professors and students. The system helps the professors to extend their class related concerns even beyond class hours. To further enhance the system, future researchers may examine a notification module for the posting of announcements, materials, and assessment. A complete featured android app will be a great enhancement on the system.
