The Philippines has lost at least Php 26.04 million due to mishandled luggage. Turning down owners, paying out claims on mishandled baggage, and returning luggage cost the airline industry a minimum of 2.6 billion dollars in 2012. Although only about 0.5% of all luggage is separated from passengers, it takes days or weeks to be returned to the owners, which affects airline activities. Barcodes are used for scanning the luggage, but it may not be scanned well because of the direction of the barcode and the movement of the luggage carousel. This project proposed a monitoring system for check-in luggage by using an RFID Tag Sticker. This involved RFID-based luggage tags that can send an SMS Notification. The RFID (Radio - Frequency Identification) is used for smarter and faster ways of scanning luggage. These luggage tags are programmed and use the GSM module for monitoring. Once passengers are inside the airplane, an SMS notification will inform them if their luggage is on the plane. Upon landing, another notification will inform passengers once their luggage is on the luggage carousel in the airport. However, because of the expensive price of RFIDs, they must be returned once passengers arrive at their destination.
