Abstract:

The study is a descriptive correlational study aimed at analyzing the factors that influence dropping of subjects among students of Davao Doctors College. There were 62 fourth year student-respondents. Primary and secondary data were used: the former are responses to items in a self-made questionnaire validated and tested for its reliability; and the latter from the Registrar’s Office of the DDC. The data gathered were analyzed and interpreted using frequency counts, means, percentages, Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient (Pearson r), Independent of Samples, Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), and multiple regression analysis. The respondents perceived the dropping of subjects on teacher-related, student-related factors, school-related factors, and curriculum-related factors as moderately influential. Perceived to have low influence are family-related, economic-related, and health-related factors. Most of the respondents dropped 1-2 subjects which show that the incidence of dropping of subjects is very low at DDC. The incidence of dropping of subjects does not vary when respondents are classified according to gender, age, and course. There was a significant relationship between the incidence of dropping of subjects and the level of influence of the factors- teacher-related factors and health-related factors. All other factors are not significant which implies that they do not significantly affect the incidence of dropping out of students. The Stepwise Regression Analysis revealed that health related factors have significant contribution to incidence of dropping of subjects.
