Abstract:

This qualitative research focused on the coping mechanisms of women in Rizal, Laguna. It addressed the following objectives: (1) to determine the demographic profile of the participants in terms of education, source of income, income and number of dependents; (2) to define the roles of NayTays that assume the father figure role in the family; (3) to determine the coping mechanisms of these women (NayTays) in order to get through the challenges; and (4) to develop an intervention program for women who stand as the father figure of their family. Using purposive sampling, the researchers conducted focus group discussion with six participants divided into two groups: one group consisting of single mothers and the other group consisting of daughters of the family. Community managing role, on the other hand, had two sub- themes, household maintenance and care. For the coping mechanisms, two themes emerged: the emotion-focused and problem-focused coping mechanism. The emotion-focused coping mechanism had two sub-themes: the communication and connection and the redirection. As for the problem-focused coping mechanism, two sub-themes emerged as well: the painful problem solving and adaptability. Based on the results of the study, a Structured Learning Experience (SLE) Module was crafted. This study concluded that women in Rizal, Laguna who stand as the main provider of their families differ in their educational attainment, source of income, and income rate.
