Abstract:

This quantitative research explored the relationship between the level of anxiety and academic performance of selected Grade 12 Senior High School students of Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba. A total of 250 respondents were chosen using stratified random sampling method for the completion of the data. The 1st semester general weighted average was used to determine their level of academic performance while a constructed test was used to determine their level of anxiety. Results were analyzed using the Pearson Product Moment of Correlation. Findings revealed that the majority of the respondents belonged to the Outstanding category in terms of general weighted average. There was a significant difference in the relationship between the academic performance and the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of sex and academic track. Half of the respondents had a mild level of anxiety. The female respondents and those from the STEM strand were more anxious. The computed p value of .065 indicated that there was no significant relationship between the level of anxiety and academic performance. The cognitive component of anxiety had a relationship with their academic performance.
