Abstract:

Philippine Red Cross (Sta. Cruz, Laguna) is an independent and a non-government organization that provides blood products to those in needs of blood around Laguna. Presently, the organization is paper based on its processes, hence, time consuming and resulting to slow service and delays. With the problems at hand, the researchers developed a system that would automate the process of requesting blood, blood donation, referrals, and monitoring of blood banks. To engage donors in donating blood, the system also provides recognition by tallying the number of times they have donated blood. Red Cross holds blood donation programs in schools, malls, city halls and companies by request or invitation. Red Cross prioritizes patients in tragic conditions. The researchers gathered information that would support their study from journals, books, related studies and articles. Primary data, on the other hand, were gathered through survey and interview to determine the requirements in developing the system, especially the features and hardware specifications needed to improve and optimize the whole workflow of the organization. In evaluating the system, the researchers used ISO 9126 as a basis in constructing the survey questionnaire answered by the Red Cross Medical Technologist, Hospital Medical Technologist Officers, Donor Recruitment Officer, Donor. Additional survey questionnaire for the IT experts to determine whether the system met their standards was also utilized. The system was evaluated based on its functionality, usability, efficiency, maintainability, and portability. System evaluation results showed that the research project met and achieved the system objectives. Specifically, the study revealed that the system provides real-time inventory of blood stock; notifies the donors about blood donation through e-mail; provides a systematic process of requesting blood; provides a map that displays the location of patients that need blood; is reliable, usable, efficient, maintainable, and portable. The researchers concluded that with the proposed system for Philippine Red Cross Laguna Chapter, handling blood requests, managing blood inventory, conducting blood donation, and producing blood reports can now be done faster and with much ease. With real time inventory, recording of data and systematic process of blood request which could be accessed online will help improve the organization’s performance of its services. The recognition of donors will help to attract more blood donors. Lastly, the added feature about the three months’ duration notification will give attentiveness and awareness to the old volunteer donors to donate again. It was recommended to implement the system.
