Abstract:

Human Resource is one of the key assets of an organization in gaining competitive advantage. To make it happen, performance appraisal should be used to properly measure the job performance of employees. This study examined the factors affecting employees’ job performance as inputs in the enhancement of the existing performance appraisal tool of Marz-Fuel. It determined how employee profile of age, gender, and tenure affect employee job performance; how the attributes of an employee, such as individual competencies, job demands and organizational environment, affect their job performance. Using descriptive quantitative research, the researchers utilized a validated questionnaire designed for supervisors and department heads to gather pertinent data. Data revealed that age, gender and tenure do not directly affect the job performance of MARZ-FUEL employees; that the attributes presented at the theoretical framework used in this study really affect employee job performance. Thus, it is significant that these be considered and included in the performance appraisal to further improve the existing one used by the company. The researchers recommended that the performance appraisal must create a section for the three attributes to address performance issues. Also, the evaluators must be oriented properly on how to rate the employees objectively to avoid biases. The employees, on the other hand, should take the results of the performance appraisal constructively to further improve their job performance.
