Discipline: Philippine History
This piece of historical article focuses on the documentation of Spanish records pertaining to the establishment of the town of Baliwag, Bulacan in the late 1500s up to 1800s which depicted the missionary activities of Spanish friars including the accounts of towns and settlements which they had founded within their jurisdiction. This preliminary bibliographic survey yielded 20 documents with the earliest imprint date of 1763. Seven documents were written by Spanish historians, 3 documents were written by American historians and the remaining 10 documents were written by contemporary Filipino authors and historians. This brief survey delineates the religious, social, cultural, and economic formation which the town of Baliwag underwent during Spanish colonial period.
