Abstract:

This study aimed to design and install a fire protection system for the Bartolome De Las Casas building in Colegio de San Juan de Letran Calamba. Specifically, the study aimed to determine the most suitable design of a fire protection system in terms of the construction and occupancy of the building; to determine the capacity and required power of the pump; and to determine the cost of the project and its economic advantage. Findings revealed that the current fire protection system is a dry standpipe and hose system which does not immediately respond when a fire accident occurs due to lack of water source. The primary and secondary sources of data were gathered through interviews, direct observation, consultations with experts, internet and library research relevant to the study. The researchers recommended alternative solutions to solve the problem regarding the current fire protection system of the Colegio. In each alternative, appropriate design computations, figures, economic study and diagrams were shown. In the selection of the best alternative solution, the efficiency, feasibility, practicality, and parameters such as capacity, pressure, power, and time were considered.
