Design Improvement of Feed Water Condition for Boiler in Honda Cars Philippines Inc.

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to improve the design of the present setup to improve the feedwater temperature of 40oC to increase it to or near the required temperature range before supplying it to the boiler. By visiting the host company, Honda Cars Philippines Inc., reading past studies, and internet research, the researchers gathered sufficient data to formulate three alternative solutions for the problem experienced. The first alternative was to re-layout the existing steam piping from the steam header to the feed water tank. The second alternative was to install an economizer in the boiler stock. And the third alternative was installing a condensate tank and return pump. Design calculations, schematic diagrams, and economic study of each alternative were discussed and presented. The researchers recommended the first alternative solution, re-layout of existing piping from the steam header to the feed water tank, because it can greatly increase the temperature and it is the most economical compared to the other two alternative solutions.
