Abstract:

This study compared the axial, radial and dynaflow impeller in terms of mixing time and energy efficiency for the mixing of miscible liquids. Comparison was also based on the change in production capacity as well as the efficiency of change of impeller diameter. Based on observation, the total mixing time was assumed, which is the time required to reach a constant density and viscosity of fluid. Industrial mixing depends to a great extent on the effective chemical processing to force a non-uniform system into a uniform one. In this study, the researchers designed a high- speed chemical mixing tank for Mayo Holdings Incorporated located at Brgy. Milagrosa, Calamba City, Laguna, for the company to attain efficient mixing time, solid suspension, and power consumption, to supply clients the specially formulated chemicals for a monthly period. The company’s present manual set-up of chemical mixing takes a long time, as it is deeply concerned with the volume and properties, leading to low production quantities. With this, the researchers investigated how to quickly dissolve their chemical powders to produce the chemical solutions efficiently and with lesser manpower effort. Specifically, it described equipment specification and design involved to benefit the manufacturing process of the company as compared with the output produced by their current manual operation. Moreover, the safety of the operator and proper selection of materials in order to design accurately the mixing tank were considered. The researchers recommended further research for renewable sources of electricity in which the company can properly mix the chemical solutions without relying on electricity coming from its provider.
