This study investigated the health risk in selected coffee shops by determining their conditions in terms of workplace environment, trainings, operations and rules and regulations; determined their level of compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA); and, identified the similarities and differences of the selected coffee shops. The researchers interviewed a manager and an employee in each of the selected coffee shops to gather the needed information. They also conducted observation by using a checklist to verify their compliance with the OSHA’s standards. The study revealed that the environment in the workplace, the trainings, rules and regulations can really affect the workers’ physical health. The most dangerous part in the workplace is when making coffee and using an espresso machine because the workers can experience burns; also, when using chemical agent. Findings also revealed that the selected coffee shops were following the standards and regulations of OSHA in their workplace, yet the workers are not aware of what OSHA is. The selected coffee shops had the same level of compliance, though with minor deficiency. The researchers concluded that an injury of a worker can affect the flow of business operation, hence, the workers are attending trainings to gain more knowledge about their work and the establishment. Following the standards in the workplace can lessen accidents. Both the employer and employee benefit in preventing injury in the workplace.
