BUILD AS ONE: THE PROFESSIONAL PLIGHT OF MENTORS IN THE NEW NORMAL EDUCATION

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to explain the plight of teachers and the insights of mentors in achieving professional development in the new normal education. This study utilized qualitative research employing phenological design in exploring and understanding the experiences of the mentors. In this study, this phenomenological approach was used to explain the context of Cabantian National High School. The participants of this study were the mentors of the school whose experience was 15 years or more in teaching. A total of 10 participants were purposively selected to represent the faculty. A semi-structured interview was employed in the study. There were two main themes formed under the strength and weaknesses of mentors in achieving professional development in the new normal education: excitement about new competencies and the travail of managing work overload at school. While there were two main themes prevailed in coping with the weaknesses of mentors in achieving professional development: the comfort of having a support system and a positive attitude toward the current pandemic. Finally, having a determined attitude amidst the pandemic is the sole learning insight from the plight of mentors in achieving professional development in the new normal education. This study commended that the results of the study must be used as the basis for policy implementation for better experiences for the school community in terms of achieving professional development among teachers.
