UPWARD MOBILITY: CAREER OF THE PUBLIC SCHOOL TEACHERS IN FOCUS

Abstract:
The main purpose of the study was to explore the experiences of
Elementary teachers during their application for upward mobility. The
study selected ten (10), permanent teachers with at least ten years of
teaching experience from Aleosan West District, Cotabato Division. This
study used descriptive qualitative research utilizing phenomenology. The
methodology is exploratory in nature. The focus of the phenomenological
inquiry is what people experience or phenomena focused on teachers’
experiences on their road to promotion. Based on the findings of the
study, there were four themes where elementary teachers described their
experiences during their application for upward mobility: tiresome
selection process, challenges in the process, unfair selection process, and
intimidation. On the other side, the analysis revealed that emerging
themes of the elementary teachers in coping with the challenges during
their application for upward mobility are as follow: self-preparation, selfmotivation, time management, and work commitment. Finally,
educational management insights are drawn from their experiences
during application for upward mobility, such as self-direction, work
commitment, and a positive support system. These themes can be
described as a mechanism of elementary teachers that would promote
healthy experiences for those teachers applying for promotion. The
Department of Education should conduct a consultation with the teachers
that can effectively enhance the selection process of teachers. Teachers
are more inspired to perform their tasks when they understand and have
a clear picture of their professional path that is able to understand the
nature of their work.
