Abstract:

Recent Implementation of K-12 Curriculum which is now Republic Act 10533 or the K-12 Law requires the educational system to prepare students to life-long skills to guide them in succeeding in the workplace. This research aims to give a fresh perspective of doing away with traditional acquisition of instructional materials for learning. In an ESL classroom, reading texts must be wisely-selected to address life-long learning and success of students in their future workplaces. Thus, this descriptive study explored the use of Text Selection to capture the Reading Interests and improve Reading Comprehension of Accountancy and Business Management (ABM) students. Findings of the study, indicates that text selection is responsive with the K-12 Track of establishing a clearer path for our students as they continue to be more attuned to the things they need to learn and equip themselves with thus resulting to better classroom performance especially in terms of reading interest and comprehension. These skills will pave the way for a better workplace experience, contribution and future abilities in the classroom and beyond.
