Abstract:

This research titled, “APPRAISAL OF ENGLISH READING INSTRUCTION: BASIS FOR DEVELOPING A LEARNING-CENTERED READING PROGRAM FOR PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN THE CITY OF CABUYAO” is a descriptive-qualitative in nature which intended to investigate how reading instruction was done within the public high schools in the City of Cabuyao and how the students were treated in the reading classroom and with the assumption that problems did exist in the teaching of reading and these problems could be possibly found in any of the components of a reading program such as instruction, reading materials, reading activities, and reading assessment. The IPO (InputProcess-Output) model used as the conceptual model in the study served also as the path of direction from the collection, processing analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data. The triangulation technique was used in the analysis of data brought by the survey, observations, and artifact analysis to establish the reliability of findings that led to inference and recommendation. After a thorough interpretation and analysis of findings, conclusions were given that led eventually to the recommendations and to the proposal of the learning-centered reading program.
