Values Shifting Pattern Relatedto Family Processes and Functioningof the Select Respondentsin the 5th District of Manila

Abstract:

Family plays a crucial role in instilling among members important values thatpromote good living. The study explored the changes that occurred among Filipinofamilies as to values, beliefs, and practices from the past to present generation.Descriptive research design was used. Structured survey questionnaires and semi structuredinterviews were utilized to generate data. For test on correlation ofresponses, chi-square and z-test of proportion were utilized. The study revealsthat there was a significant difference in the perceptions of parents, teachers andstudents on positive values except for being concern to the environment andhumility. However, there was no significant difference in their perceptions onnegative Filipino family values except for indulgence in vices and laziness. It isconcluded that students, parents and teachers’ shifted values and that life’s idealsare all dependent on family relationship, generational trends, and significantothers. Parents, older members of the family, and teachers should set a goodexample to the young generation.
