Abstract:
This study was conducted to examine the relationship between
emotional intelligence and academic performance among Medical
Technology students of Universidad de Zamboanga. Specifically, it
answered the following questions: 1. What is the emotional
intelligence among Medical Technology students? 2. What is the
academic performance among Medical Technology students? 3. Is
there a significant difference in emotional intelligence and academic
performance when grouped according to their profile? 4. Is there a
significant correlation between emotional intelligence and academic
performance among the respondents? Means and percentages were
used to determine the emotional intelligence and academic
performance among the third-year Bachelor of Science in Medical
Technology students. T-test and ANOVA were used to determine the
significant difference between emotional intelligence and academic
performance. Pearson product-moment correlation was used to
determine the significant relationship between emotional intelligence
and academic performance of the respondents. The results showed
that the emotional intelligence of the third-year Medical Technology
students is high. In comparison, the student’s academic performance
had a mean of 84.73, a satisfactory average grade. The findings showed
no significant difference in the respondents’ emotional intelligence
and academic performance in terms of their sex, age, ethnicity, and
socioeconomic status. Moreover, there was no significant correlation
between the emotional intelligence and academic performance of the
respondents.
