The dichloromethane extract of the air-dried leaves of Delonix regia afforded scopoletin (1) by silica gel chromatography. The structure of 1 was determined by spectroscopic methods and confirmed by comparison of its 1H NMR data with those reported in the literature for scopoletin. Compound 1 exhibited antifungal activity against Candida albicans and antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bubtilis subtilis. It was inactive against the fungi, Aspergillus niger and Trichophyton mentagrophytes.
