Abstract:

This descriptive-correlational-analytical study aims to determine the best predictive equation for the performance of students in Mathematics 3 as measured by Third Year Final Grade and Achievement Test of

third year students of the Ateneo de Davao High School for the school year 2007- 2008. Pre-identified factors include Baseline Knowledge (Stanine), first year and second year Math final grades and Attitude Levels.

Findings reveal average performance of the third year students in Baseline knowledge, as well as in their final grades in the two previous year levels. The students also register a fair attitude towards mathematics. All pre-identified factors significantly predict third year Math performance as measured by third year final grade. Only the second year final grade significantly predicts third year performance as measured by the Achievement test. The equation y=0.439x1 + 0.125x2 + 0.711x3 + 1.369x4 + 6.203 is considered the best predictive equation model for the performance of students in third year Math. This study also shows that Second Year Final grades contributed the largest percentage to students’ Math 3 performance.
