Abstract:
The hospitality industry has become a lucrative business venture for local tourism. The main players are the hotels and inns catering to travelers and tourists. One of the concerns of this industry is the practice of environment-friendly activities and compliance with protocols to reduce the global impact of their operations. This study aimed to discover the environment-friendly practices of hotels in the City of Santiago of the Province of Isabela. A descriptive survey design was used to determine the perceived practices of the hotels through the 16 hotel managers and 87 guests of the hotels. Descriptive data analysis showed that hotel managers perceived that the hotels often practice environment-friendly activities. In contrast, the guests' perceptions of the hotels sometimes practicing environment-friendly activities, only on the use of energy efficiency, conservation, and lighting that the respondents differ in their perceptions on environmental practices of the hotels. The other areas of environmental practices showed no difference in their perceptions. The hotel managers rated the practices of their hotels higher than the guests, which is understandable. The lower rating the guest gives depends on their experiences and observations during their brief stay in the hotel. It is thus recommended that the compliance of environment-friendly protocols be studied to determine the practices of environmentally friendly activities prescribed by responsible agencies.
