Abstract:
Neck pain is a common musculoskeletal disorder in the general population. It is highly prevalent in teaching, especially in this study, which aims to find out the postural awareness of the teachers in a university in the northern Philippines and their perceived neck disability to inform and propose early intervention to prevent further long-term disability. 87 participants in the study had varying degrees of neck pain occurrences. Results showed that most are aware of their postures and suffer minimal disability. It can be noted, however, that there are faculty who are slightly and not aware of their posture with both moderate and severe disability. There is a significant relationship between neck posture awareness and the level of pain disability. Still, there is no significant difference in postural awareness and neck pain disability when grouped according to the profile of the participants. It is thus recommended that yearly check-ups of employees include screening for musculoskeletal disorders to prevent musculoskeletal disorders and the introduction of early intervention to reduce any long-term disability.
