A study of the provision of hotel spa facilities in Hong Kong

Discipline: tourism, transport and travel

Abstract:

Many hotels have presently planned to add spa to their lists of amenities. The existing hospitality literature, however, has a limited number of prior studies that examined the issue of spa in hotels. This study is conducted to investigate the benefits and limitations of providing hotel spa facilities from the perspective of customers and operators. In-depth interviews and focus group discussion were adopted to seek the opinions from hotel spa operators and hotel spa users. Empirical findings reveal it is not absolutely necessary to have spa facilities in hotels despite the related advantages. It is important for hoteliers to realize what spa facilities will bring to their business and what the expectation from customers are.
