Discipline: tourism, transport and travel
Abstract:
This case study examines residents’ and tourists’ perceptions of tourism in a
small, colonial town in Sonora, Mexico, from the perspective of socioeconomic
benefits, transportation and culture. Based on a pilot survey of 132
inhabitants and tourists, the study found that while most respondents did not
consider tourism to have improved the their standard of living, there is a
tendency to support tourism’s growth because of its potential infrastructure
and economic value for the town.
