From Capability to Competence: Research Capability Assessment of Elementary Teachers in Diffun II District as Basis for Training Development Plan

Discipline: Education
Abstract:
Research is essential in
improving the quality of education, as
it helps teachers reflect on their
teaching practices and adopt more
effective strategies. Despite its
importance, many teachers face
difficulties in doing research because
of limited training, lack of time, and
minimal support. This study
examined the research capabilities of
119 elementary teachers in the Diffun
II District for SY 2024–2025 to
identify strengths, challenges, and
support needs. Using a descriptivecorrelational design, data were
gathered through a structured survey
and analyzed using both descriptive
and inferential statistics. Findings
revealed that teachers generally have
moderate to high research knowledge
and skills, but their attitudes vary.
Key factors affecting capability
include educational background,
professional development, and
institutional support. Significant
relationships were found between
these factors and research
performance.
The study highlights the need for
focused training, mentorship, and
school-level support to strengthen
research engagement. These efforts
can help build a research-driven
culture in basic education and support
teachers' professional growth.
