Transcript++: A Web-based Management System for Students’ Experiential Activities

Abstract:

This study introduces Transcript++, a web-based management system developed to streamline the documentation, verification, and evaluation of students’ experiential activities at Lyceum of the Philippines University – Batangas. The system addresses the challenges of the existing manual process used under the Laurel Program, which acknowledges students’ co-curricular and extracurricular achievements. These experiential activities contribute to holistic student development by fostering soft skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication—skills that are increasingly sought after by employers. Developed using PHP, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, and MySQL, Transcript++ was created following the Iterative Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC). It features three main user roles: students, evaluators (Technical Working Group), and administrators. Students submit activities and evidence, which are reviewed by evaluators and scored based on predefined criteria. Administrators oversee the system, generate reports, and produce the 2nd Transcript of Records that highlights non-academic accomplishments. The system includes functionalities such as a point system, leaderboard rankings, real-time progress tracking, and automated report generation. Alpha testing confirmed its reliability, usability, and performance across devices. Results showed improved efficiency, accuracy, and user satisfaction, significantly reducing the administrative burden. The project aligns with the university’s mission to produce well-rounded graduates and offers potential for adoption across other educational institutions.
